Our Story

Dr. Jessy Manhas, a graduate of The University of Waterloo, began his clinical optometry career in 2003 in the lower mainland of Vancouver, British Columbia. After practicing for many years, he realised and was troubled by the fact that many patients were unable to afford contact lenses and eyeglasses.

In early 2010, Jessy encouraged his brother, Morick Manhas, an optician, to launch VisionPros to provide affordable contact lenses. Around the same time Jessy and his wife, Dr. Diane Spada, began their own charity called Eyes for the World, committed to providing free eye health to those less fortunate domestically and abroad.

With the genuine goal of getting contact lenses to patients at a reasonable price, Morick worked hard to create an online retailer to serve North America. In 2014, Jessy’s curling teammate, Frank Racanelli, joined the business as the Managing Director. Frank and the Manhas brothers have since organised VisionPros to ensure it continues to provide affordable online eye care globally and support charity missions in developing countries. VisionPros is continuing the global reach and has began selling affordable contact lenses online in the UK. This is the first step in the global expansion.

This small family-run business started receiving and shipping orders from Morick’s house at all hours of the day and night. Today, VisionPros has over 40 full time employees in three countries. Yet, the commitment to family values and to its employees remains the same. Jessy, Morick, and Frank are at the heart of the action and can be found anywhere from the board room making the tough decisions to the warehouse making boxes, picking/packing orders and laughing with staff.

Each year, Dr. Jessy Manhas, Dr. Diane Spada and Dr. Jason Lau volunteer with Eyes for the World to lead three 1 week missions to El Salvador, Jamaica and Ghana where comprehensive eye exams, eyeglasses, sunglasses, medications, and cataract surgeries are provided to those less fortunate, all at no cost.

VisionPros is excited to see what the future holds with the future addition of eyeglasses and sunglasses to the website and the ability to serve even more families.
